Picture Perfect Places: Are They Always As They Seem?

I came across an article about Stonington, Maine with this photo of it.
Wow, did it ever sound beautiful! It's definitely on my bucket list.

This exchange between the reporter and a local townsperson sums up its beauty:

The second I read this, it reminded me of Meredith Schorr's As Seen on TV,
a laugh-out-loud funny novel about a journalist — Adina Geller‚ who has an obsession for Hallmark movies: you know, the ones in which the heroine lives in, or moves to picture-perfect town and finds true love, always with some handsome, strapping flannel-clad local guy.

The twists in Meredith's book:

First off, the town is anything but what Adina envisioned.
Also, the townspeople aren't happy-pappy or cookie-cutter perfect either.

And, finally: her love interest is the last guy she'd choose. And, after she does, how he behaves is not anything like she imagined—
For all the right reasons.
